Automation of scenario creation
#1
Hi there,
I was wondering whether there is any current ability to automate scenario creation in VEDA_FE in such a way that allows different scenario files to be applied, as you are able to do in the case manager?

In my current project I am creating a large number of scenarios (100s), which have different technology availability and technology costs. Currently creating these scenarios manually in VEDA_FE takes a long time - and if I could automate the procedure that would be amazing.

I'm aware of the 'TIMES for HPC' project which occurred a couple of years ago - which would save some time, allowing the GAMS optimisation procedure to be automated. However it still appears to me that creating the indiviudal .run and .dd files necessary would be a manual job, which would still take some considerable time.

I'm also aware of the 'MCA in the TIMES framework' project - and I guess I might be able to use some insights from that to achieve my goals (which is not a MCA as such, but does involve the generation of a large number of scenarios). However I thought I'd check first to see if anyone has any insights on automation of scenario creation in VEDA_FE?

All the best,

Neil Grant

Thanks Amit - this looks really helpful.

I am sure the VEDA Parametric Scenarios will fit well with your needs. However, note that Running "Multiple parallel scenarios in TIMES using the GAMS grid features" does not require any individual .run and .dd files.  You can run such using the sensitivity analysis features of TIMES, see: Stochastic Programming and Tradeoff Analysis in TIMES, either with or without the GAMS grid computing facility.
