PCG for multiple commodity technologies
#1
Hi,

I have a question about defining Primary Commodity Group (PCG) in Veda. Actually I have defined technologies with several inputs and outputs. Output commodities are in two types of NRG and ENV. Example of one technology (Steam cracking) is as below:
Commodity-In: Naphtha (NRG), Natural gas (NRG), Electricity (NRG)
Commodity-Out: Ethylene (NRG), Propylene (NRG), CO2 (ENV)

I would like to have both Ethylene and Propylene as my PCG. Based on Veda documents, I assume that for this technology I defined, the PCG is by default considered based on ethylene and propylene (based on the PCG defaults defined in TIMES: output commodity and commodity types order of DEM, MAT, NRG, ENV), right? Or I need to still define those commodity outputs (Ethylene and Propylene) by myself?

Besides that, when we have defined our PCG (based on multiple commodities), I assume it will the basis for defining some further attributes e.g. COST, Efficiency, ENV_ACT, ..., right? I mean the calculations are done based on the total produced chemicals (ethylene + propylene) from this technology as defined in PCG. For example, the INVCOST (defined in $/t) is considered based on PCG (I mean per ton ethylene+propylene), right? Or the efficiency (we defined based on t-output/GJ-input) is considered according to ton produced ethylene+propylene per GJ inputs (Naphtha+Natural gas+Electricity).

I would be grateful to have you advise on those points concerning PCG definition and implementation in my system. Thanks a lot.

You just need to look at the process under Items View and confirm that Veda has already done what you want. The STAR on RES View panel marks the commodities that are a part of the PCG. Name of the PCG is given on the Details panel.

Finally, you can look at that PCG under CommGrp tab of Items view.

All you have said about the attributes is correct.
