Dummy electricity commodities lost
#1
Hello,

I'm new to the forum, so please let me know if I should address things differently.

Context:
I have some CHP plants represented through a process, and this works fine. However, the setup of some plants is as follows: part of the electricity (ELE) goes to the local grid of the plants, and part is sold to the main grid. To simulate this, I use a dummy ELE commodity that goes directly into a DUMMY process, which includes a ratio for the amount that goes to the local grid and the amount that goes to the main grid. The process works fine, and I have set the efficiency to 1 to ensure no losses occur in the dummy process.

Issue:
The DUMMYELE commodity is defined as part of ELE in its Primary Commodities Group, because the CHP needs an ELE output to apply the ratio. However, what's strange is that the VAR_OUT of the CHP and the VAR_IN of the dummy process (which splits where the electricity goes) differ by a constant factor of around 10%. I assume these differences are due to transmission losses related to the ELE Primary Commodities Group or other parameters that aren't explicitly shown in VEDA.
Is there a way to control this loss parameter or to force equality between the VAR_OUT of the CHP and the VAR_IN of the dummy process?

Thanks in advance,

Antoine

If there is such a constant factor, I think it can only be defined by you (your model).  Neither VEDA nor TIMES creates such factors themselves.  So, as far as I can see, it must be somewhere in your model templates (or external data files, if you have included such). The most obvious candidate attribute would be COM_IE.

Yes, just recall and find out where you have defined it in your model, and then take control of it. Blush
