Issue when running TIAM with Price-Elastic Demand
#1
Hi all (apologies for another question in quick succession!),

When running TIAM with Price-Elastic demand, we're currently getting a whole set of warnings, and we're not sure where they're coming from.

We run Price-Elastic demand as normal, and we get normal completion of the run. The results can be seen in BE and look sensible (i.e. there is some reduction in demand due to mitigation).

However, I also get a file called QA_Check (see attached file), which raises a number of warnings. Briefly summarised, they are:
1. *** Delayed Process but PASTInvestment
2. *** Elastic Demand but either COM_BPRICE/ELAST/VOC missing
3. *** Demand: DEM commodity with missing COM_PROJ Projection
4. *** IRE Process with invalid Parameters
5. *** RPC in TOP not found in any ACTFLO/FLO_SHAR/FLO_FUNC/FLO_SUM
6. *** Empty Group in FLO_SUM/FLO_FUNC/FLO_SHAR

I'm aware that's a lot of warning messages, and I may not have provided the requisite information to allow someone to give a solution, but if anyone has any idea about the origin of any of these warnings, and how we could deal with them, that would be really appreciated.

Many thanks,
Neil

1. *** Delayed Process but PASTInvestment
 • Signifies that you have defined START=year for a process, but you have existing capacities; you can usually ignore this warning if it is so as intended.
2. *** Elastic Demand but either COM_BPRICE/ELAST/VOC missing
 • Signifies that you have enabled elastic demands but you have not defined the corresponding parameters for some demands; you can usually ignore this warning if it is so as intended.
3. *** Demand: DEM commodity with missing COM_PROJ Projection
 • Signifies that you have demand commodities without any demand projection for them; you can ignore this warning if it is so as intended.
4. *** IRE Process with invalid Parameters
 • Signifies that you have defined e.g. ACT_EFF for IRE processes, which is a modeling error, you should not define such invalid parameters for IRE processes, because they are meaningless for IRE processes.
5. *** RPC in TOP not found in any ACTFLO/FLO_SHAR/FLO_FUNC/FLO_SUM
 • Signifies that you may have completely free process flows, because they are seemingly not tied to any other flows by the normal process transformation parameters; these may signify a modelling error, so you should check why there are such flows; however, free IN flows are usually harmless, but OUT flows are serious.
6. *** Empty Group in FLO_SUM/FLO_FUNC/FLO_SHAR
 • Signifies a serious modelling error: some FLO_SUM/FLO_FUNC/FLO_SHAR has been specified but the process does not have the flows that are referred to in the parameter; you should check these out.

Thanks Antti - those are super helpful comments. We'll have a look and check that out.
