Tips for reducing syncing time of SysSettings?
#1
Dear all,

We are experiencing a relative long syncing time for SysSettings for a simple model with 8760 time slices. We have multiple demand profiles on a daynite timeslice level that is imported rather fast by using DINS (30 seconds). I find it therefore strange that the SysSettings file, with less parameters, uses over 5 minutes to sync. A lower syncing time will help us to use TIMES also for small-scale optimisation problems instead of other commercial software.

In this context, are there any tricks on how we can change the SysSettings-file to lower the syncing time? For example, is it possible to move YRFR to a DINS table in a scenario file? Or can we reduce the complexity of the SysSettings file somehow?

All tips and help are highly appreciated. Our SysSettings time-slice definition is attached.

8760 rows are too many for an INS table. You can use a DINS table in SysSettings too, but it would be better to move this table to another scenario file that is always selected.

SysSettings should have no parameter specs apart from interpolation options and process/commodity characteristics modifiers (PRC_TSL etc) so that material that needs to be processed in each sync is minimized.

Thank you Amit! I have previously only seen that YRFR is defined in SysSettings but it can of course be defined in BY or a scenario. It makes the modeling much easier, thank you for pointing it out.
