Solving difficult LPs
#1
Hello,

Some/most of you have likely experienced difficulties in solving some of their TIMES. Going through some literature, I found the two attached papers that may be of use. They indicate strategies for adapting solver options etc... for difficult problem instances (one relates to continuous LPs, the other to MILPs), depending on the diagnosis. Just thought i would share this, in case some of you do not know and find it helpful. References are the following:
·        Klotz, E. and A. Newman, 2013. "Practical Guidelines for Solving Difficult Linear Programs," Surveys in Operations Research and Management Science, 18(1-2): 1-17.
·        Klotz, E. and A. Newman, 2013. "Practical Guidelines for Solving Difficult Mixed Integer Programs," Surveys in Operations Research and Management Science, 18(1-2): 18-32.
