PRC_PKNO for trade process in VFE
#1

Dear all, how can PRC_PKNO be introduced for a (unidirectional) trade process in Veda FE? Where and how is it to be specified? I couldn'd find an example or description.

Thanks and best,
Tom

I am no expert on VEDA, but I have also had for a long time problems with defining both PRC_PKNO and PRC_PKAF from within VEDA-FE. While Amit seems to be currently unavailable to give help on this, maybe Maurizio could have some insights on using these TIMES attributes with VEDA-FE?

For PRC_PKNO, the only direct way of defining it in VEDA that I know of is to use the PKNO set qualifier in a ~FI_Process table.  I have myself been using this method also for trade processes that have been defined in ScenTrade__Trade_Links. However, it is a bit cumbersome for those trade processes, because the Process table entries must be entered into the Base templates to avoid import errors. I have also tried to use a ~TRADE_Param table for defining it, but without any success.

For PRC_PKAF, which is very useful when one wants to define the peak contribution as the fraction of capacity assumed to be available according to NCAP_AF, I am not aware of any working way of defining it from within VEDA-FE. Consequently, the only way I know for using it in VEDA-generated models is to prepare a small GAMS extension and include it in the model run. (But note that in TIMES, trade processes are never assumed to contribute to the peak by their capacity, and so PRC_PKAF can only be used for normal processes.)

However, if I will get another term as a TIMES maintainer, I think I could add a new option of defining PRC_PKNO and PRC_PKAF by using special interpolation options for NCAP_PKCNT. That would make it much easier to use there attributes, also from scenario files.

Thanks for your reply Antti,
So, I'll use an extra dd file which I include in the run.
That works fine.
Concerning PRC_PKAF: How do I know for which processes PRC_PKAF=YES and for which PRC_PKAF=NO? I thought, that when I define NCAP_PKCNT (PEAK in Veda) PRC_PKAF is automatically =YES. To my experience PEAK determines the capacity's fraction available in the peak timeslice quite satisfactory.
Best,
Tom

Dear Tom and Antti,

I never used PRC_PKNO and PRC_PKAF and I don't see them between the VEDA-FE supported parameters.

Amit are these parameters supported by VEDA-Fe? I don't see them in the Attributes Master table.

Thanks
Mauri

Well, if you find it satisfactory to use NCAP_PKCNT for determining the capacity's fraction available in the peak timeslice, then you of course have no need for PRC_PKAF.  PRC_PKAF(r,p)=YES is just a shortcut for setting NCAP_PKCNT(r,y,p,ts) to be equal to Max(bd, NCAP_AF(r,y,p,ts,bd)) in the peaking timeslices ts.  By default, PRC_PKAF=NO, and NCAP_PKCNT=1 (unless either PRC_PKNO=YES or PRC_PKAF=YES).
