Technical Support Required – Missing Output Variables in VEDA-TIMES Model
#1
Dear Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.

I am currently working on a TIMES model using VEDA for a research project to estimate GHG emission mitigation potential and associated costs to achieve NDC and Net Zero targets. However, I am facing a critical issue with my model outputs.

Despite successfully compiling and running the model with all required input data, specific emission-related output variables—particularly TRACO2 (transport sector CO₂ emissions) and ELCCO2 (electricity sector CO₂ emissions)—are not appearing in the results.

I have already attempted the following troubleshooting steps:transport-sector CO₂ emissions) and ELCCO2 (electricity-sector CO₂ emissions)—do not appear

Verified that all input data (activity, emissions, and processes) are properly defined

Checked and modified commodity and process mappings

Ensured emission coefficients are assigned

Re-ran the model multiple times after adjustments

Reviewed output settings and filters in VEDA

However, the issue persists, and the required variables are still not being generated in the results.

Given the urgency and importance of this work, I would greatly appreciate your expert guidance on:

Possible reasons why TRACO2 and ELCCO2 outputs are not being generated

Specific checks I should perform in VEDA/TIMES structure (e.g., COM_EMI, ENVACT, or process-level emission settings)

Any known issues or common mistakes related to emission output configuration

Recommendations for debugging or validating emission flows in the model

For reference, I'm happy to share screenshots, model structure files, or relevant sections of my dataset to help diagnose the issue more effectively.

This support is very important for progressing my research, and I would sincerely appreciate detailed guidance.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Jose Achsach Alankaram

I am not a VEDA expert, but I consider being one about TIMES.

So, if you like, I can take a look and explain to you why there are no Var_Fout results for TRACO2 or ELCCO2, if you can provide a reproducible case. That would mean providing the *.DD files and the *.RUN file, and the *.LST file.  It seems the model is small enough for attaching a ZIP file here, containing those files.

Surely, I have attached to this post. Kindly find it, sir.

The ZIP file you attached contained only the listing file plus a RUN file template. The following files were thus missing:

  india.RUN
  india_ts.dd
  base.dd
  syssettings.dd
  elasticdem.dd
  ndc.dd
  nze.dd
  peak_rsv.dd
  uc_growth.dd
  uc_nuc_maxcap.dd

You should find all these files in the work folder.

In this Folder you can fine missing files.

Thanks, the RUN file was still missing: india.RUN. If you can give that too, then I am all set.

Ahh... I already see that the run is failing:

--- Model has been proven infeasible
--- TIMES Solve status: No solution returned

So, there you already have your explanation. If the model is infeasible, you cannot get any results from the solver.  And this means that you have failed to:
  • Verify that all input data (commodities, processes, and their attributes) are properly defined

The listing file also shows many domain violation errors. And it also tells you where the infesibility is, and so you already have good information on how to start correcting your model. However, it seems to me that you would first need to familiarize yourself with VEDA-TIMES by playing with the demo models or by attending a training course.

I have used demo models, but I do not know which part of the input data verification I failed I read all the documents, also watched the webinars, still unable to get to the root of the issue

If possible, then kindly guide me. It would be great as a student.
